Tracing Our Roots - Telling Our Story is our society's Twenty-fifth Anniversary project

It is an anthology of over 45 compelling and entertaining contributions, written by members of our society.

The themes include tales of research and discovery, escape, struggle, family reunion, growing up, lives led. Some will make you laugh, some will have you reminisce and a few may even make you weep.

If you wish to purchase the book, buy it today at Aleph Bet Judaica, 3453 Bathurst Street, Toronto OR by it from our Society by downloading the order form by clicking on this link: Tracing Our Roots order form, or purchase online at Family Chronicle Book Store.

Digital Cemetery Records

We have submitted basic burial records for about 71,000 graves from each of the twelve Jewish cemeteries in the GTA to the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry (JOWBR).

The second phase of our project is to digitally photograph all of the matzevahs (headstones).  We have completed the photography for both Jones Avenue and  Pape Avenue (Holy Blossom or Jews' Cemetery) and Dawes Rd. Cemeteries. In Jan 2012, JOWBR posted about 7,800 digital photographs of these headstones.

Beth Tzedec Cemetery is the next to be photographed. Over 30 people, both JGS Toronto Society members and non-members, have volunteered to help with the photography and the preparation of the photos for submission to JOWBR.
