This is a large public reference library with ample reading facilities and computers, microfilm/fiche readers and copiers on all floors. The History Department offers an important collection of books, newspapers, periodicals, microforms, government documents and non-book materials on history, geography, genealogy, biography and travel.

The Map Room has a large collection of current and historical maps, atlases and gazetteers for most regions of the world. The material is on open shelves or available on request. The library has a complete set of Toronto City Directories from 1838 to the present and many city directories from other cities in Canada, the US, and Great Britain. Current Canadian and foreign telephone directories are on the ground floor. U.S. directories are on microfiche and are available at the ground floor service desk.

This library has access to the microfilm collection of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
