2011-04-06 The “value-filled” Gala event, one of the major highlights of the 31st IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy, is being held on Thursday night, August 18, in the beautiful Grand Hyatt Ballroom. This event, formerly known as “The Conference Banquet,” has been transformed into one with a lower-key yet greater networking potential. Bowing to comments, we’ve also scaled down the cost to a more realistic $65 per person. This should make the event more affordable, and likely that more Conference attendees and their spouses or companions (registered or not for the full Conference) to attend. What will attending the Gala get you? An attractively printed Gala Journal will list the evening’s quality agenda, which thus far includes these high points: - Excellent-tasting kosher food, delicious hors d’oeuvres, and more substantial, scrumptious fare at a variety of buffet stations, and cash bars - A casual atmosphere that will allow you to meet, mix, mingle, and above all, to network and share your fabulous genealogical finds during the week - Plenty of seating for chatting and relaxing: so much seating, in fact, that you’ll be able to easily change seats from food course to food course, and mingle that much more readily! (We’ve done away with predetermined, reserved seating, so that mingling-- an important goal of attending IAJGS conferences-- would be more possible.) - The pleasure of honoring and applauding our outstanding IAJGS Achievement Awardees of the year, being given awards for major and lifetime Jewish genealogical achievements - And for your listening pleasure: the world-renowned Robyn Helzner Trio will captivate us with their charming wit and evocative melodies sung in Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino, Russian and English from Jewish communities in five corners of the world. However, remember--- You can’t attend this wonderful, value-filled event until you register for it AND the Conference.
