Shelley Stillman (nee Hailman) was born and raised in Toronto; she has a B.A. from York University and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto. She was an elected trustee on the North York Board of Education for twelve years - serving three years as Chair.

Shelley Stillman is the immediate past president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Canada (Toronto).

Two of her goals during her term as president were: updating the society website. (The New Website Project began in November 2007 with the launch in October 2008) and revitalizing the Cemetery Project. Basic burial data from the 11 cemeteries in the GTA has been submitted to JOWBR and work is underway to digitally photograph the headstones.  A number of individuals have expressed interest in photographing cemeteries around the province and Shelley has been coordinating with the Hamilton and Ottawa societies to ensure that there is no duplication of effort.

Her greatest genealogy moment was meeting relatives in Belgium who had survived the Holocaust.  She shared this breakthrough in her presentation June 23, 2010 “Photographs have two sides: How an inscription on the back of a photograph led to finding ‘lost’ relatives in Belgium.”
