SPEAKERS AND TOPICS: 1. Elaine Cheskes, is JGS Toronto’s own very active librarian. Her presentation is entitled “Brest Ghetto Passport Archive” In it, Elaine will show how she used passport information, ID cards from the Brest ghetto and other genealogical resources to recreate the story of a family who perished in the Holocaust. 2. Linda Offman, a longtime member of our Programming Committee, modestly says that she is improving her skills by sharing her expertise with other family members and friends, helping them with their genealogical projects. She will talk about four of the these projects, some big and some small, in her presentation that she calls “Different Degrees of Success”. 3. Shelley Stillman is the immediate past president of JGS Toronto and like Carolynne, still serves on the Board. Shelley has been very active in updating and maintaining the society website and also in revitalizing the Cemetery Project and making it one of the most successful of all the Jewish Genealogical Societies in this area of activity. She calls her presentation “Photographs have two sides: How an inscription on the back of a photograph led to finding ‘lost’ relatives in Belgium.” 4. Carolynne Veffer has been a member of our society since the early 90s and has contributed greatly by serving as treasurer, VP and President. She will show how some information found in the Arolsen records held at Yad Vashem led her to find the grave of one of her paternal relatives from Holland. |
