New Updates to the Library and Archives of Canada Print E-mail

The Library and Archives of Canada (LAC) have made  updates a number of
their databases.
These include:
Canadian Naturalization database increased from 20,000 to 200,00 images
Corrections made to entries for Home Children database
Corrections made to entries for the Canadian Expeditionary Force - CEF
Corrections made to Killed in Action (KIA) database
Addition of 2,000 digital images to the Board of Guardians database
Addition of 104,000 digital images of Passenger Lists database
Addition of 40,000 digital images to Citizenship Montreal Circuit Court database

Ancestors Search has been migrated to a new technological platform to
improve response time, and to increase the volume of data from 2 million, to now 12
million new records.

The site also indicates they are working on a number of areas that may be of
interest to Jewish genealogists including:

An addition of three new pages to the Canadian Genealogy Centre. These pages
relating to Finnish, Ukrainian, and German ethno-cultural groups will
supplement existing online pages for Jewish, Aboriginal Peoples, Acadians, Blacks,
Chinese,Irish,  Métis and Polish groups.

Release of indexes and digital images for the 1861, 1871 and 1916 Censuses.
All Census returns from 1851 to 1916 have been digitized and are available on
multiple websites. By the summer of 2011, LAC reports that all digital
images and indexes to those Census returns will be available on the Library and
Archives Canada website.
