2009-10-06

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) [USA] and
Ancestry.com, a subscription service, launched two collections: Reports of
Deaths of American Citizens Abroad, 1963-1974 (previously only available in
NARA research rooms)  and Honolulu Passenger Lists, 1900-1953 (not available
on line previously).

The launch of "Reports of Deaths of American Citizens Abroad, 1963-1974" is
a first installment of more than 80,000 records consisting of letters,
formal reports, passports and other key historical documents that verify
deaths of Americans overseas.

The Honolulu Passenger Lists, 1900-1953, consists of more than 1.4 million
records of passenger arrivals to Honolulu, Hawaii.

The NARA began agreements with several firms to digitize NARA records
collections. Ancestry.com has had a relationship with NARA since 2008. NARA
and Ancestry.com also announced an expansion of their existing agreement to
digitize NARA records at Ancestry's new facility in the Washington D.C.
area.  This is the first time NARA has partnered to have records scanned off
site.
