2009-03 The goal of Shamir is to commemorate the memory of Latvian Jews. Its most significant project is the Latvian Jewish Encyclopedia, which gathers information about all the Jews with a Latvian connection. It will be a memorial for the Latvian Jews which, to date, does not exist. We have gathered already more than 2 500 biographic and thematic entries, which is about half of the proposed number of entries, covering the period from 1561 to 1991. We are now seeking additional information about Jews born or in any way connected to Latvia and living abroad. If you have information about such people, could you please forward the information to us. I would like to invite you to participate in the project of the Encyclopedia with any information you have on this topic. All the information will be included into the Latvian Jewish Encyclopedia.
